Well testing
In September of 2002 the New Jersey legislature passed the Private Well Testing Act. The act states that any home whose primary source of drinking water is from a private well must have a well water test prior to the home being sold. In August of 2005 Rockland County, New York passed a similar law and Westchester County followed with their own county's well water test regulation in 2007.
